Michele Deiana (1992, Cagliari) is an experimental minimalist-driven Italian composer based in London.
His work focuses on archetypes and fundamental aspects behind personally influential concepts or stories, translating them into intense, intimate and highly emotional artistic journeys. Conceiving composition as a multi-disciplinary activity, he creates hybrid works that move across the worlds of music, cinema, and theatre. 

 

Michele has a distinguished academic formation, earned by studying in the Conservatories of Cagliari (studies in classical guitar, harmony and counterpoint), Venice (BA + MA in Composition under the guidance of Corrado Pasquotti), and Birmingham (studies in Composition as an Erasmus+ scholarship holder, under the guidance of Dr. Michael Wolters).

 

In 2021 he is one of the 12 selected composers at the prestigious Composers Academy of the Cheltenham Music Festival in the United Kingdom, where he composed A new center, a piece for a cappella choir that deals with the theme of isolation, with lyrics written after Daniel Defoe’s A Journal of the Plague Year.

 

During the same year he has been selected as composer in residence at Prospettive Sonore in Udine (Italy), with the support of SIAE and the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiBACT), under the guidance of composers such as Alvin Curran, Giovanni Mancuso and David Monacchi.

In 2023 Michele has been selected for the Composing For... scheme organized by renowned new music organization Psappha, allowing him to compose a piece for the double-bass virtuoso Toby Hughes.

 

He is a co-founder member of the Venetian organization VER-V, interested in exploring new ways for artistic research and production, mainly focused on the sound/performance field.
 

His works have been performed and broadcasted at festivals, institutions, and radio stations such as RaiRadio3 (IT), La Biennale di Venezia (IT), Cheltenham Music Festival (UK), Spitalfields Music Festival (UK), Pinault Foundation (IT), MUTEK San Francisco (USA), Moving Body Festival (BG), Montréal International Festival of Films on Art (CA), ThinkThank® Birmingham Science Museum (UK), Los Angeles Lift-Off Festival (USA), Screen.Dance Festival (UK) amongst others.

He worked with professional ensembles in Italy and UK, such as Perpetuo Saxophone Quartet (IT), Ensemble Forma Libera (IT), Decibel Ensemble (UK), The Carice Singers (UK).
